Rakesh M. Suri, MD, DPhil. is a globally recognized thought leader and pioneering cardiac surgeon with expertise in heart valve disease, robotics, transcatheter technology and complex multivalve pathology. He is a leader who has spearheaded the development of innovative models of healthcare delivery, international enterprise growth and organizational transformation in pursuit of value at Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic. He is currently Head of Robotic Cardiac Surgery at Corewell Health.

Dr. Suri served as the first President of International Operations at the Cleveland Clinic leading the international strategy and global business development efforts positioning the organization as One Cleveland Clinic in the United States and abroad. From 2017-2021, Dr. Suri led Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi as President and Chief Executive Officer and served as Executive Team member of the Cleveland Clinic Enterprise. He oversaw the hospital’s strategy and effective operations as the first-ever U.S. multispecialty hospital to be replicated outside of North America with more than 6,000 caregivers from 85+ countries in partnership with stakeholder Mubadala, one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds. Under his leadership the hospital grew to nearly 500 beds.

Dr. Suri was a consultant in the Division of Cardiovascular Surgery, Professor of Surgery and Chair of the Enterprise Robotic Practice at Mayo Clinic until 2015. His academic pursuits include contributions to more than 340 peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters, greater than 15 patents and several FDA multicenter trials. He was the Director of the Cardiovascular Fellowship Program at Mayo Clinic and past President of the Heart Valve Society.

Dr. Suri earned his undergraduate degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, medical degree with honors from the University of Toronto and a doctorate at Magdalen College, Oxford, UK, as a Rhodes Scholar. He completed thoracic surgical residency at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and is board-certified in both General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery.
